Barcelona Will Light Up with Giant Illuminated Figures in Every District This Christmas

The City Council has also announced extended lighting hours across the city

We know we’ve just welcomed autumn, and the Castanyada is still ahead, but we can’t help but already think about Christmas celebrations! In less than two months, the festive spirit will return to Barcelona, and this year, it’s going to feel a little brighter. The City Council has just unveiled its annual Christmas lighting plan, and this year’s big news is the installation of giant light figures in every district. These illuminated structures, featuring Christmas-themed designs unique to Barcelona, will be placed at over 20 locations around the city.

The goal of these new light totems is to spread the holiday magic to even more corners of Barcelona, including some of the more central areas. Some of the spots where these figures will appear include Vallcivera Street in the Ciutat Meridiana neighborhood, Plaça de les Fonts in Baró de Viver, Plaça del Congrés Eucarístic in the Congrés i els Indians neighborhood, and squares in Sarrià and Bonanova, among others. Here are the 22 locations where the new structures will be installed:

  • Rambla del Raval, north and south roundabouts (Ciutat Vella)
  • Mallorca Street at Villarroel Street (Eixample)
  • Plaça de l’Orgull (Sants-Montjuïc)
  • Roundabout at Constitució Street and Rambla de Badal (Sants-Montjuïc)
  • Marina del Prat Vermell (Sants-Montjuïc)
  • Plaça de Les Corts (Les Corts)
  • Plaça de les Ceràmiques Vicens (Les Corts)
  • Plaça de la Bonanova (Sarrià-Sant Gervasi)
  • Plaça de Sarrià (Sarrià-Sant Gervasi)
  • Pi i Margall Street, near Joanic Square (Gràcia)
  • Pi i Margall Street, near Ronda del Guinardó (Gràcia)
  • Plaça de Meguidó, in front of the Civic Center (Horta-Guinardó)
  • Plaça de Montbau (Horta-Guinardó)
  • Small square at Vallbona Avenue and Vallcivera Street intersection (Nou Barris)
  • Plaça de les Treballadores i Treballadors de la Harry Walker (Nou Barris)
  • Square at Ciutat Meridiana metro exit, at the intersection of Pedraforca Street and Rasos de Peguera Avenue (Nou Barris)
  • Plaça de les Fonts in Baró de Viver (Sant Andreu)
