Safety Tips

Barcelona is a safe city ranking 4th as the most visited city in all of Europe, after London, Paris and Rome. It is also the most popular tourist attraction in Spain attracting about 5 million tourists every year! However, like in any metropolitan city you must be careful and try to avoid cases of thievery, which are common in any large cities. The main incidences to be aware of are pick-pocketing, bag snatching and other petty crimes while exploring the city.

Please safe guard all your belongings as you explore the city. Watch your bag, purse, wallet, cameras, and any other items which you carry as opportunistic thieves occasionally stroll through the streets and outdoor seating areas of all the eateries and will grab anything unattended.

The best suggestion would be for you to try and blend in with the community.

  • Dress and attire is an easy way for tourists to stand out from the locals of Barcelona.
  • Preparing your destination and travel appointments should be carefully mapped out before leaving the apartment. If you must ask for directions, a local shop or business will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
  • There is no need to carry large amounts of cash since most sales transaction accept all major credit cards
